Red Cross

Another Friday, another trip to Woolworths for groceries, then knitting at the Red Cross meeting. But first Betsy and I went to two op shops looking for knitting markers. No luck, however she found a tui feeder and 2 soup plates.

I found a Grant’s Finest Scotch Whiskey highball glass for Grant and a flamingo string art kit (unopened) for Clara. I’m going to suggest she make it and give it back to me as a present. Two birds, one stone.

I have made great progress on the hat I am knitting and finally understand the lacy pattern. I managed for finish the 3rd repeat, so only 1 more repeat, then 10 rows to go. Then the part I dread: weaving together the 2 edges to finish the hat. I’d much rather work in the round. While I sat and knit, I listened to the gossip and planning the other ladies were doing. They know everything about everything. What’s the new restaurant, who owns what, who’s married to whom. Very much like my parents living in Naples. Quite a difference from my moving to a new town and being a stranger.

We finally figured how Tessarina is escaping from the porch “catio ”, a patio for cats. Several times, she would be out there, then we would see her walking through the garden or come from under the house. I looked at all the screens, testing each joint. I did this more than once. Betsy got so frustrated, she decided to just give up and let the cat come and go as she pleased.

Then Tess made a mistake: she decided to leave the catio while Betsy happened to be sitting in her living room chair and could see the cat climb up a column and squeeze through an space at the top of the porch. I never thought to look for openings above my head. How did the bugger find it? This will be fixed

Betsy made a delicious risotto with asparagus from the garden and a silver beet casserole, what I call Swiss chard, for dinner.

Dessert was Tip Top Gold Rush Riot ice cream I’d found at the grocery store, a beloved traditional NZ flavor. “Golden hokey pokey flavored ice cream with gooey fudge ripple and chocolate hokey pokey pieces”. Meh. I liked the passion fruit much better. But we will try the plain Hokey Pokey for our next round.
